Botox is not only indicated to rejuvenate and treat wrinkles even if temporarily, the product is also indicated for certain neurological pathologies, such as focal spasticity associated with dynamic deformity of the equine foot, due in turn to spasticity in paediatric patients walking with cerebral palsy, from two years onwards; focal spasticity of the wrist and hand in adult patients suffering from cerebral stroke or ankle (adult patients suffering from a cerebral stroke); blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm and associated focal dystonia and cervical dystonia.

Allergan is also used in adult patients suffering from chronic migraines, i.e. headaches lasting 15 days or more per month, intolerant to specific drugs. The medicine is also indicated for bladder diseases, such as idiopathic hyperactive bladder with symptoms of urinary incontinence, urgency and frequency in adult patients who do not have an adequate response or are intolerant to specific drugs; incontinence in adult patients with neurogenic muscle hyperactivity; bladder detrudes caused by stabilized spinal cord injury from the cervical region to lower levels or multiple sclerosis.

In order to replenish the product, it is good practice to prepare the syringe on top of plasticized absorbent paper to collect any residues and prevent any contamination of the pure product. Reconstitution takes place with a sterile physiological solution without preservatives (specifically, 0.9% chloride sodium solution for injectable use). The appropriate amount of diluent shall be taken with a suitable syringe. Inject the diluent slowly as the product is denatured by effervescence and vigorous agitation. Remove the bottle if there are particles, the liquid is not clear, and the liquid has difficulty getting into the container itself. It is stored in the refrigerator between 2 and 8 degrees up to 24 hours before use, any residue should not be reused.

If packages with different dosages of Botox are used during the same treatment, care must be taken to use the right amount of diluent in order to replenish the specific number of units per 0.1 ml. The amount of diluent could be between types of BOTOX Allergan Units, so each syringe must be appropriately labelled to avoid overdose phenomena. Read the label and instructions well before diluting the product.

If the treatment is ineffective after one month of therapy, clinically assess the patient's condition, check the injection points or change techniques, appearances of contracting or the body has manufactured antibodies that neutralize the toxin, or the dose of botulinum toxin type A to be injected into the specific part should be reassessed. Between the first and second cycle, it is good to observe an interval of three months. If it fails again, consideration should be given to choosing an alternative therapy for the indicated disorder.

Allergan Botox has contraindications, especially those who are prone to proven hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin type A, or any of the excipients, infection at the injection points, in patients who have a urinary tract infection or acute urinary retention. In this case, never exceed the doses and the recommended frequency to administer the drug since you risk overdose, but also persistent muscle weakness, the distant spread of the toxin and formation of neutralizing antibodies. The initial dosage may begin with the lowest recommended dose for the specific indication.

Botulinum type A toxin is also indicated for certain skin diseases, such as the famous persistent hyperhidrosis in the armpits and/or hands and feet, if it interferes with normal daily activities and is resistant to topical treatment. Only a qualified doctor will be able to administer Allergan Botox according to the pathology and treatment are chosen by the professional, who must also have the appropriate equipment to be able to dilute and administer the medicine in total safety. There are no optimal levels of validity for indications, dosage and number of injection sites in each affected muscle, it will be the care of the doctor to establish individual treatment regimen, while not exceeding the maximum recommended dose.
